چکیده

We consider $f(R)$ gravity and Born-Infeld-Einstein (BIE) in formulations where the metric connection are treated independently integrate out to find corresponding models solely terms of connection, archetypical treatment being that Eddington-Schr\"odinger (ES) duality between cosmological Einstein Eddington theories. For dimensions $D\ne2$, we this requires have a specific form which makes model Weyl invariant, its reduction is then equivalent BIE with certain parameters. $D=2$ dimensions, ES not applicable, both invariant first order formulation bosonic string. also discuss boundary needed for variational principle be well defined on manifolds non-null boundaries. This modification Gibbons-Hawking-York (GHY) term gravity. means dualities consistent include terms.

Thermal duality and gravitational collapse

Thermal duality is a relationship between the behaviour of heterotic string models of the E(8)xE(8) or SO(32) types at inversely related temperatures, a variant of T duality in the Euclidean regime. This duality would have consequences for the nature of the Hagedorn transition in these string models. We propose that the vacuum admits a family of deformations in situations where there are closed...

Gravitational Duality , Branes and Charges

It is argued that D = 10 type II strings and M-theory in D = 11 have D − 5 branes and 9-branes that are not standard p-branes coupled to anti-symmetric tensors. The global charges in a D-dimensional theory of gravity consist of a momentum P M and a dual D − 5 form charge K M1...MD−5 , which is related to the NUT charge. On dimensional reduction, P gives the electric charge and K the magnetic ch...

Gravitational Duality Transformations on (A)dS4

We discuss the implementation of electric-magnetic duality transformations in fourdimensional gravity linearized around Minkowski or (A)dS4 backgrounds. In the presence of a cosmological constant duality generically modifies the Hamiltonian, nevertheless the bulk dynamics is unchanged. We pay particular attention to the boundary terms generated by the duality transformations and discuss their i...

2 D quantum dilaton gravitational Hamiltonian , boundary terms and new definition for total energy

The ADM and Bondi mass for the RST model have been first discussed from Hawking and Horowitz’s argument. Since there is a nonlocal term in the RST model, the RST lagrangian has to be localized so that Hawking and Horowitz’s proposal can be carried out. Expressing the localized RST action in terms of the ADM formulation, the RST Hamiltonian can be derived, meanwhile keeping track of all boundary...

Duality and higher derivative F - terms ⋆

We test the recently conjectured duality between N =2 supersymmetric type II and heterotic string models by analysing a class of higher dimensional interactions in the respective low-energy Lagrangians. These are F-terms of the form F g W 2g where W is the gravitational superfield. On the type II side these terms are generated at the g-loop level and in fact are given by topological partition f...
